Program Description: Our sponsored child lives in the coastal community of Mzambarauni, home to approximately 50,000 residents. Typical houses are constructed of dirt floors, mud walls and corrugated iron roofs. The primary ethnic group is Giriama and the most commonly spoken language is Kigiriama. The regional diet consists of maize, beans, bananas, fish, bread, cassavs, and rice. Common health problems in the area include coughing, malaria, typhoid fever and skin diseases. Most adults in Mzambarauni are unemployed but some work as day laborers and earn the equivalent of $20 per month. This community needs employment opportunities, improved housing and clean water. Our sponsorship allows the staff of Mzambarauni EAPC Child Development Center to provide Carolyne with Bible teaching, health education, nutritious food, recreational activities, picnics, educational trips and skill training. The center staff will also provide meetings, Bible teaching and counseling for the parents and/or guardians of Carolyne.
